Bluebonnets Blooming in December and January in the Highland Lakes Area?

Yes, some Bluebonnets are already blooming in the Highland Lakes of central Texas. There are blooms on 3 Bluebonnet plants near our home on Bluebonnet Hill in Kingsland, Texas and it is only January 1, 2009. We noticed the first 2 blooms on two plants on December 30, 2008 and now a third Bluebonnet is sending up 2 blooms.

In 2008 the first blooms that were noticed were on February 17th near our house, and that was about a month earlier than normal. KVUE news in Austin reported the first Bluebonnet sighting to be on February 19, 2008, 2 days after our blooms.

We are hoping that Bluebonnets blooming in December and January are a sign that we will have a nice mild winter. The last two winters were really nice.

Isn't it great living in central Texas?
